What to do in Kirchberg
Kirchberg is a popular ski resort in Austria, located next to another more famous resort called Kitzbuhel. Both resorts are united into a single ski area and have a common lift system. A holiday in Kirchberg, in essence, is an opportunity to ride in the Kitzbuhel Mountains, while finding yourself in a calmer place than at a neighboring resort. There is some useful information about the resort which I found out when I was doing my research:
- The total length of the routes is about 234 km.
- The altitude difference ranges from 800 to almost 2000 meters.
- The longest route is approximately 7 km.
- The resort has about 50 ski lifts.
- The blue routes cover 102 km of territory, the red routes cover 66 km, and the black routes cover approximately 20 km.
- There are also opportunities for freeride – about 46 km.
Such options as night skiing, a snowboard park with a halfpipe, opportunities for boardercross, and about 30 km for cross-country skiing are also available at the resort.
Among the entertainment options, the main ones in Kirchberg are local restaurants, bars, and discos. In nearby Kitzbuhel you can visit a water park. In addition, many hotels in Kirchberg also offer indoor pools and spa areas with various types of treatment including massage rooms and saunas. Active holidays in Kirchberg can also be varied with ice skating, sleigh rides and horseback riding.
In the summer, the resort also offers outdoor activities, including rock climbing, mountaineering, hiking, cycling, horseback riding, paragliding, bowling, squash, tennis, etc. In the summer, the lifts continue to operate, and there is an opportunity to climb the mountains and admire their beauty. Nearby Kitzbuhel also offers good shopping opportunities.
Several architectural landmarks have also been preserved in Kirchberg, for example, a 15th-century church, after which the town was named. The 18th-century monastery, a museum dedicated to linseed oil and numerous half-timbered houses of the 19th-century are also interesting to see.
Overall, in my opinion, Kirchberg is suitable for those skiers who love high-quality pistes and freeride, but also want to stay in a calm resort after skiing, going to the local pools and spas. Please note that for shopping and more entertainment options it is better to go to neighboring Kitzbuhel. The distance between Kirchberg and Kitzbuhel is 7 km. During the winter time, free shuttle buses run between towns.
Take a note! When going on a trip to Austria, do not forget to take out travel insurance, which is useful for receiving a tourist visa and for solving emerging medical problems when travelling in another country. You can purchase insurance via online services, for example, via EKTA and others. You can choose from different modes, including quiet, active or extreme rest.
