What to do in Val di Fiemme
Val di Fiemme is, first of all, a ski resort, although it operates all year round. In the summer time you can go rock climbing, mountaineering, hiking, fishing, taking part in excursions, etc. There are 5 ski areas open for skiers in Val di Fiemme called Alpe Cermis, Latemar, Alpe Luzia, Passo Oclini and Passo Rolle. In total, almost 100 km of trails are available. The routes are mostly of easy and medium difficulty.
For experienced skaters, it may seem boring here, because the mountains are not as high as mountains deeply in Dolomites region, but it is compensated with high-quality routes and picturesque landscapes in Val di Fiemme. There is some useful information that I found out:
- The altitude difference at the resort is 1,500 m.
- The resort has 56 ski lifts.
- Val di Fiemme also has several snow parks, 2 half-pipes, forest and panoramic slopes and night skiing.
- For cross-country skiing enthusiasts, there is the 70-kilometer Marcialonga track.
In order to be able to ski in the Val di Fiemme valley, you need to purchase a ski pass called Val di Fiemme/Obereggen. Ski pass prices vary depending on the season. For example, during the opening period from November 26 to December 24, the cost of ski passes starts from 55 euros per 1 adult (price is indicated for 1 day). During the “high” season, from December 25 to January 7 and from January 9 to March 18, prices slightly increase. A one-day ski pass for one adult costs from 61 euros these “high” periods of the year. After the end of the “high” season, prices for ski passes return to their previous level.
In addition to the actual skiing, you can find other entertainment in Val di Fiemme. For example, in Cavalese there is an ice stadium (indoor skating rink), while in Tesero, on the contrary, there is an open-air skating rink (on the lake of Tesero, where fishing is good in the summer). Also, almost every major village in the valley has its own indoor swimming pools. For example, in Cavalese, you can find a sports center with a swimming pool, a heated Jacuzzi, a water slide, a children’s pool, and an aqua fitness pool. The sports complex in Predazzo also has a swimming pool for adults, a children’s pool, an aerobics pool, and a gym.
Another funny entertainment option in Val di Fiemme is the winter roller coaster or, as they are called it here, the Alpine Coaster. Essentially, this is a railway with a diameter of almost 1 km, along which you can ride on a special open toboggan. This toboggan can accelerate to a speed of 40 km/h. The toboggan has two seats, so you can ride both in an adult-adult team and in an adult-child team. The most convenient way to get to the attraction is by taking the Predazzo-Gardonè gondola.
In general, I can say that Val di Fiemme is the perfect place for beginners and medium-skilled skiers in the Dolomites region. You will be pleasantly surprised with the brand-new ski lifts, panoramic slopes, and sporting events that are held every year here. In terms of additional options – restaurants, cafes, shops and other entertainment are also available here.
As far as I know, in the summer, the resort is also a popular place to stay in. From snow-covered towns, Val di Fiemme turns into a green, flowering valley, where you can always climb the mountains, be it hiking, rock climbing or just gondola riding. There are quite a few panoramic routes here, offering the best views of the valley, forests and lakes of the Dolomites.
Take a note! When going on a trip to Italy, do not forget to take out a travel insurance, which is useful for receiving a tourist visa and for solving emerged medical problems when travelling in another country. You can purchase an insurance via online services, for example, via EKTA and others. You can choose from different modes, including quiet, active or extreme rest.
