When to travel to Madonna di Campiglio
Madonna di Campiglio is a resort that is well-known not only among the locals, but also among all ski lovers, since the natural conditions of the place are unique and ideal for skiing, and the touristic infrastructure is highly developed not only for sports, but for relaxation that accompanies any reputable ski resort. Excellent conditions and a variety of pistes, lifts and cable car services, extensive areas for relaxing, a promenade, a variety of authentic restaurants, bars and active nightlife – all this makes the resort one of the most popular in Italy.
The ski season in Madonna di Campiglio lasts from the end of November to March inclusive; natural and climatic conditions contribute to the long-lasting skiing period. The resort is surrounded with the Dolomites, which are picturesque and fascinating at the same time. Besides, Madonna di Campiglio is also connected to other ski resorts, so the possibilities for skiing here are virtually unlimited.
After some research, I decided to put together information I have previously found out and create a complete guide on how to organize a holiday in Madonna di Campiglio. I figured out how to get to the resort, where to stay & what to do there. I really hope this detailed information will help you plan your trip to Madonna di Campiglio.
Madonna di Campiglio can be visited any season of the year. If you prefer skiing and snowboarding, then it will be better to choose the period between November and March; but if you prefer hiking, sightseeing, rock climbing and other summer kinds of sport, then it will be better to choose April-October months, when countryside is pretty colorful.
How to get to Madonna di Campiglio
Where do you fly into to get to Madonna di Campiglio? Most often, tourists get to Madonna di Campiglio from Milan or Verona, which are located closest to the resort and have the international airports. It is quite convenient for tourists to arrive to Madonna di Campiglio via Milan or Verona, since these cities have direct flights from different cities of the world all year round. You can check the flight timetable to Milan or Verona, as well as find out the exact prices for tickets, on specialized services like Aviasales and other similar ones. Then you can get from these cities to Madonna di Campiglio by public transport, by transfer service or by rented car.
How to get to Madonna di Campiglio from Milan
By public transport: Milan is located 220 km from Madonna di Campiglio. The city and the resort are connected with highway No. A4. To get to the resort by public transport, you need to make several changes along the way. Firstly, you need to get from Milan airport (located 45 km from the city) to the Milan railway station, then to take a train to Trento (with a change in Verona), and from Trento to take a regular bus to Madonna di Campiglio. The total travel time is at least 5 hours. You can check the train timetable from Milan to Trento via Verona at the Raileurope booking service. I can recommend this online service as I use it pretty much often when planning upcoming trips around Europe. Raileurope has a convenient search and a lot of filters to sort the results. Then you need to take a regular bus directly to Madonna di Campiglio. Focus on the bus line #201.
By transfer service: It is faster to get there by taxi or transfer service. A taxi car can always be found at the exit from the arrival terminal, but it is more reliable to order a transfer service in advance, then the driver will already be waiting for you at the time of your arrival. Private transfer services such as Intui.Travel, Kiwitaxi run along the route. In this case, the travel time is about 3 hours from the Milan Malpensa Airport. Based on my experience and after examining tourists reviews, I can recommend both transfer services.
In winter, a group transfer is also available. For example, Fly Ski Shuttle company operates between Milan and Madonna di Campiglio during the “high” skiing period from December until April.
By rented car: A car rental option is also suitable to get to Madonna di Campiglio. Car rental in Milan is extremely popular, and rental points can be found both at the city center and at the airport, be it Malpensa, Linate or Bergamo airport. Madonna di Campiglio and Milan are connected with motorways No. A4 (221 km) and No. A35 (214 km). The total travel time is approximately 3,5 hours (see on the map). The Milan-Brescia section is a high-speed route; further along the road from Brescia to Madonna di Campiglio there are often mountain serpentines, because the resort is located in the mountains.
⇒As car rental in Milan is very popular option among tourists, I would recommend booking a car for renting in advance. You can check current offers via various international services such as Discover Cars, Economybookings, etc. I use both of them when planning my trips and either Discover Cars, or Economybookings have a decent search with a lot of options and detailed information.
How to get to Madonna di Campiglio from Verona
By public transport: Verona is located somewhat closer to Madonna di Campiglio than Milan. The distance between the city and the resort is about 170 km, but there is no direct railway connection along the route, so to get to Madonna di Campiglio by public transport, firstly you need to use a train to go Trento town. Then you need to make a change and take a regular bus in Trento directly to Madonna di Campiglio. Focus on the bus line #210. You can check the train timetable from Verona to Trento at the Raileurope booking service. The total travel time is about 3,5 hours. Raileurope is one of my favourite online services for planning upcoming trips. It has a very convenient search with a lot of filters to sort the results and find out the best suitable train connection.
By transfer service: You can also get to the resort by transfer or taxi service. In order not to waste time looking for a taxi upon arrival, you can order an individual transfer in advance. This can be done via Kiwitaxi, Intui.Travel and other similar services, running along the route. Based on my research, both online services have a lot of positive reviews. The travel time in this case is 2 hours 20 minutes. In winter, a group transfer is also available. For example, Fly Ski Shuttle company operates between Verona and Madonna di Campiglio during the “high” skiing period from December until April.
By rented car: You can also rent a car at the Verona Airport. To do this, it is enough to have a passport and an international driver’s license. In total, 20+ more different car rental companies have offices at the Verona Airport, so you can choose a car from a truly extensive range. The registration of renting a car in Verona takes no more than 20 minutes, but it is recommended to book a car in advance because the car rental option is very popular at the Verona airport, especially during “high” skiing season. You can check available car rental options via various international services like Discover Cars, Economybookings and others. I use both of them when planning my trips and either Discover Cars, or Economybookings have a decent search with a lot of options and detailed information. The city and the resort are connected with motorway No. A22/E35; the travel time is 2,5 hours (see on the map).

Primarily a ski resort, Madonna di Campiglio has 120 km of ski slopes, 25 km of which are easy, 80 km medium and 15 km difficult. It should not be forgotten that Madonna di Campiglio is connected with gondola lifts to neighboring resorts, which significantly expands the geography of the slopes and makes skiing almost unlimited. As I found out, the resort has 61 lifts, and also has a snowboard park, half-pipe, and heli-skiing.
Every year, downhill and slalom competitions are held in Madonna di Campiglio, which indicates the highest preparation of the resort for the ski season. Of course, there are also ski schools, sports equipment rentals, and sportswear and shoe stores at the resort.
Almost every 4 or 5-star hotel has its own spa areas, and indoor and outdoor pools can also be found in 3-star hotels. You can try relaxation treatments in the wellness centers of OASI DEL SOGNO, ALPEN BEAUTY SPA, CHALET ALLIMPERATORE, BERTELLI, VITALITY SPA BELLAVISTA, CERANA RELAX, CHALET DEL BRENTA and others. You can also find health and spa centers at hotels in the town of Pinzolo, which also offer various relaxation treatments.
In addition, Madonna di Campiglio is ready to offer traditional winter activities, such as ice skating, dog sledding, paragliding, mountaineering and much more. In the summer, tourists can try their hand at golf, tennis, hiking and rock climbing. I must say that a holiday in Madonna di Campiglio in the summer season also has its advantages due to the local blossoming nature and comfortable climate.
In general, as I see it, Madonna di Campiglio is an all-season resort, ready to offer a lot of entertainment and ideas for active time. The inspiring natural landscapes are combined with a promenade consisting of a large number of restaurants, bars, discos, cafes with picturesque views and excellent shopping. Nightlife in Madonna di Campiglio is also very active; it seems that the resort never sleeps, but smoothly flows from the mountain slopes to the streets of the town during the night time.
Take a note! When going on a trip to Italy, do not forget to take out a travel insurance, which is useful for receiving a tourist visa and for solving emerged medical problems when travelling in another country. You can purchase an insurance via online services, for example, via EKTA and others. You can choose from different modes, including quiet, active or extreme rest.
