What to see in Sperlonga
Sperlonga is famous primarily for its sandy beaches, but there are also many historical and natural monuments. The old part of the town is located on a hill, and it is definitely worth strolling along the narrow streets and cozy squares.
The hill offers the best views of the shore. There are also many historical monuments preserved here, the most famous of which are the 12th-century Church of Santa Maria. You can also find out the 15th-century Church of San Rocco, and three medieval watchtowers. The main feature of local architecture, in my point of view, is the soft pink and whitewashed shades of limestone, which decorate the facades of most buildings in the historic center.
Grotto of Tiberius
Keep in mind, in the surroundings of Sperlonga there is another interesting landmark called the Grotto of Tiberius, which has been here since the time of the Roman Empire. Today it is more of an archaeological find, attracting a lot of attention from all those interested in this discovery. The exhibits that were found during the excavations of the grotto are now stored in the local archaeological museum and are available for observing.
I think it is a good idea to go sightseeing to neighboring towns. For example, 20 km north of Sperlonga you can find the equally colorful resort of Terracina. Terracina is famous for its historical center, which has preserved buildings from Ancient Rome and the Middle Ages. There is a cathedral and a forum, a castle, a palace, plus several towers and temples.
16 km south of Sperlonga there is one more interesting town called Gaeta. In Gaeta, the most impressive thing is the majestic castle, located on a hill within the town. The castle is built in the style of the early Middle Ages. I would also recommend for viewing the Monte Orlando Natural Park and the Riviera di Ulisse Nature Reserve, located in the closest surroundings of the resort.

Beaches of Sperlonga
Sperlonga is a place that is primarily associated with beach holidays and for a good reason. Along the shore of the Tyrrhenian Sea there are endless golden sandy beaches. They are considered to be the cleanest, with a gentle entrance to the sea. For several years in a row, the beaches of Sperlonga have been awarded the honorary Blue Flag as the cleanest beaches in the world.
The shoreline of Sperlonga stretches for almost 10 km north and south of the town center. The climate here is one of the most comfortable in Italy. By the way, the swimming season can last up to six months. The shore is washed by the warm waters of the Tyrrhenian Sea.
All Sperlonga beaches, regardless of their status (paid, free, private, public) open at 8.30 am and work until about 7-7.30 pm. Night swimming in the sea is strictly prohibited. Paid beaches in Sperlonga are well equipped. There are not only umbrellas and sun loungers, but also changing cabins, toilets, etc.
Practical information for visiting
The price for a holiday on a paid beach is not cheap and varies from 15 to 25 euros per day, but your sun lounger and umbrella will be assigned to you for the whole day, regardless of how many times a day you leave and return to the beach.
If we talk about public beach areas, these are relatively small ones located between paid beaches. The quality of the surface is not much different from the paid areas though. Keep in mind, you need to have your own equipment to relax on those beaches.
The most popular beaches in the resort are Della Fontana (there is a free section), La Canzatora (there is a free section too), Delle Salette (no free sections), Dellangolo (there is a small free section), Delle Bambolle (the only pebble beach in Sperlonga, no free sections). Please note that the beaches in the town center can be quite crowded in the summer, while the beaches to the south or north of the center have a quieter, more intimate atmosphere.

Take a note! When going on a trip to Italy, do not forget to take out travel insurance, which is useful for receiving a tourist visa and for solving emerging medical problems when travelling in another country. You can purchase insurance via online services, for example, via EKTA and others. You can choose from different modes, including quiet, active or extreme rest.
