What to see in Positano
The main attraction of Positano is its gorgeous natural views. The Amalfi Coast is the place where steep cliffs and blue waters of the Tyrrhenian Sea meet. But unlike the Ligurian coast, the local cliffs do not go straight into the water, but expose small gulfs suitable for swimming. The local beaches, although small in size, are very popular. In my opinion, Positano and the surrounding area are great for walking.
Historic Center
A nice idea is to start exploring Positano from its historic center. In the main square of the city called Flavio Gioia you can find the magnificent temple of Santa Maria Assunta, which was constructed back in the 13th century. This cathedral can easily compete with the Byzantine cathedral in neighboring Amalfi town for the title of the most recognizable religious building on the coast. The majolica in the exterior decoration and mosaics in the interior give the temple of Santa Maria Assunta a special charm.
- It opens from 09.30 a.m. to 12 p.m. and from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m.
Natural Views
The central square of the town offers a good view of the Li Galli Islands, located near the shore of Positano. To my mind, it is definitely worth visiting the islands with a boat tour, if you have a free time.
You can walk around Positano and see the surrounding area with lemon groves and panoramic views of the sea along a special route that called “Path of the Gods”. It is not always easy to walk along it, because in some places you need to overcome a certain number of steps, but the mesmerizing views of the local countryside are worth it. The path rises 300 meters from the shore. Along the way you can see various architectural monuments hidden from the eyes of most tourists. I would definitely recommend taking a walk along the path.

Positano Beaches
Travelers traditionally associate holidays in Positano with the sea, and beaches. The beaches in Positano have a sandy surface, but the sand here is not golden, but rather dark gray or ash-colored. Narrow strips of beaches in the center of Positano are paid, but walking a little further along the shore, you can find free areas for sunbathing and swimming. The paid beaches in Positano are equipped with everything you need, i.e., by paying for entry, you get the right to use sun loungers, chaise lounges and umbrellas.
The largest beach in Positano, La Grande Beach, is only 300 meters wide. Knowing this, it is easy to imagine how tiny all the other beaches in the area are. However, in the summer, the beaches of Positano are extremely popular with tourists who are not put off by the high cost of accommodation at the resort or the limited amount of beach space.
In conclusion
Anyway, Positano has an absolutely charming atmosphere, so tourists often choose exactly this sea resort to get acquainted with the Amalfi Coast. There are different ways of how to get to Positano, but the most popular are car rental or taking a taxi as public transport is not very well-developed here.

Take a note! When going on a trip to Italy, do not forget to take out travel insurance, which is useful for receiving a tourist visa and for solving emerging medical problems when travelling in another country. You can purchase insurance via online services, for example, via EKTA and others. You can choose from different modes, including quiet, active or extreme rest.
