What to see in Maiori

Maiori is not only located in a picturesque place in Italy, but also has a lot of man-made attractions. Tourists love Maiori for the combination of natural beauty and historical sights. Of course, we should not discount the local beaches, which, according to some estimates, are considered to be the best on the Amalfi Coast.

Historical attractions

Be sure to go to the historic center of Maiori. Here you can see many preserved historical sights. The central architectural composition of Maiori is the Cathedral of Santa Maria and the square located next to it. The cathedral was built in the 13th century, and its main “highlight” is considered to be the décor which has gorgeous majolica elements. Keep in mind, majolica, in turn, is a unique type of decor, actively used in design only in this part of Italy. You can see the most beautiful majolica dome of the cathedral by climbing several terraces up.

No less impressive cathedrals can also be seen in neighboring Amalfi town and Positano, so I would definitely recommend to spend a day or two for visiting other towns of the coast.

Places to go from Maiori

In addition to the cathedral, in Maiori and its surroundings you can also find other historical monuments, for example, the monastery of the Dominican Order, the romantic castle of San Nicolas, the abbey of Olearius and the church of Grace, built here during the Middle Ages.

For those who are not afraid of long-distance walking, you can go to the neighboring mountain village of San Vito, where the temple of Madonna is located. Along the way, you can see many interesting things, such as a grotto with stalagmites, a “fern” forest, chestnut and lemon groves, vineyards and much more. From the top, where the temple is located, beautiful views of the sea gulf open up.

Overall, I can say that Maiori is a hidden gem of the Amalfi Coast and it is definitely worth visiting and even staying here longer. There are different ways of how to get to Maiori, so travellers, for sure, can choose the best suitable one for them.
