When to travel to Peschiera del Garda
Peschiera del Garda is a popular resort town at the southern side of Lake Garda. Cozy and picturesque, it is located in a wonderful place and it is convenient to get here from major cities in Northern Italy such as Verona or Milan. Peschiera also has all the necessary touristic infrastructure, including accommodation, catering facilities and all kinds of entertainment from boat trips on the lake to visiting the Gardaland Amusement Park. Peschiera has its own train station so it is convenient to get there by public transport. I have travelled a lot around Europe and I can say it is always very convenient when a town has its own train station, because trains remain one of the fastest and comfortable means of transport here.
The “high season” on lake Garda is the period from June to September incl. This is the time when lake water is getting warm enough to swim in it and relax on the local beaches. This is also the time when Gardaland water park is open. You can also visit Peschiera in off-peak season, lasting from October to May, to take excursions, go hiking and travel around the lake.

It’s definitely worth strolling around the historical part of Peschiera del Garda, because you can see the Porta Verona gates built in the 16th century, a 16th-century fortress in the shape of a pointed star, various bastions and pavilions built in the 19th century. Lively resort squares are full with restaurants, cafes and live music, so tourists often spend their time here. The historical center of Peschiera has its own charm and a lot of sights to observe.
In the closest surroundings of Peschiera del Garda there is the famous Amusement Park called Gardaland, which attracts tourists with children from all over the world. The park has both traditional and water attractions, as well as an aquarium on its territory. The park is divided into several areas. There are attractions designed for the little ones, and there are those that will make even adults dizzy. I did some research to collect practical information for visiting and here it is:
- The cost of a day ticket when purchased online is from 39 euros, when purchased at the door is from 50 euros.
- A combined ticket, which gives entry to both the amusement park and the aquarium, costs from 45 euros when purchased on the website and from 56 when purchased at the entrance.

- The high tourist season in Gardaland is considered to be the period from mid-June to mid-September, when the park doors are open until 23.00.
- From mid-September the park begins to operate on a schedule from 10.00 to 17.00.

- The park operates according to the same schedule in the first week of January, then closes for the off-season.
If like me, you plan to visit not only the amusement park, but also the Aquarium (and it’s worth it!), be sure that its opening hours are somewhat different.
- At any time of the year, during the opening period of the park, the aquarium is open from 10.00 to 18.00, so do not put off visiting it until the last minute.
- The same applies to the Legoland Water Park, which is open until a maximum of 19.00 in high season.

According to my little research, the beaches of Peschiera del Garda are small pebbles ones, equipped with everything tourists need, including sun loungers and umbrellas. Water activities are also available. During the summer season beaches are very popular and can be over-crowded. There are special small piers for those who like to swim in the depths. The swimming season on Lake Garda lasts from June to September inclusive.
Take a note! When going on a trip to Italy, do not forget to take out a travel insurance, which is useful for receiving a tourist visa and for solving emerged medical problems when travelling in another country. You can purchase an insurance via online services, for example, via EKTA and others. You can choose from different modes, including quiet, active or extreme rest.
