Car rental at the airport of Verona
Car rental in Verona
Verona is one of the popular tourist destinations in Italy and that place where Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet met. Verona has its own international airport. In addition, the very location of Verona suits for active travelling around. For instance, the distance from Verona to Venice is only 120 km, to Lake Garda is 40 km, to Milan is 160 km, to the Dolomites is 100-150 km.
There are many options to get around Italy from Verona. You can use public transport, which is connected to all major cities in the country. However, if you want to visit some small towns or remote places (for example, a trip to the Dolomites or around Lake Garda), then a car is a good choice for travelling. Renting a car in Verona is a very common thing and is in demand among tourists.
Car rental in Verona is a fairly popular service. You can find rental points both in the city (in the center or at the railway station) and at the airport. The rental price starts from 25 euros a day; you can rent a car of any class, including mini, economy, compact, medium-capacity, family cars, minivans, convertible cars, SUV, premium cars, etc. You can choose a car with or without air conditioning, with automatic or manual transmission, with unlimited or limited mileage.
I have travelled a lot along the roads in Europe so I can confirm they are pretty much comfortable and it is often the fastest way to get to the desired destination. Plus, you can conveniently and safely move around the Northern regions available from Verona as the road connections are developed absolutely excellently here. After some research, I decided to put together information I have previously found out and create a complete guide on how to rent a car in Verona to travel around Northern Italy.
Rental offices in Verona can be found at the following points:
- 6, Viale XXV Aprile, Verona (Verona railway station; the rental companies are Locauto, Enterprise, Maggiore, Keddy, Avis, Europcar);
- 6 A, Via Torricelli, Verona (the rental company is Noleggiare);
- 147, C.se Milano, Verona (the rental company is Morini Rent);
- Via Giovanna Murari Bra, Verona (the rental companies are Global and Buchbinder) and many others.
You can compare offers from all suppliers at once on the following online services:
Discover Cars is a service for searching, comparing and saving on car rentals;
Economybookings is a service for finding cheap car rentals around the world.
I can recommend both services as they have a decent search with a lot of useful options to find out the best available car rentals.
Please, note! In order to find the most suitable option in terms of price and quality, you can check the offers on all the listed services for comparison. It is better to book a car from well-known rental companies with a good reputation and known quality of services. As a rule, online booking includes additional options for renting a car, such as free cancellation of the order 48 hours before the arrival date, free changes to the order, coverage in case of theft, coverage in case of an accident, etc.
Why is it better to book car rental services in advance? Verona is a popular tourist destination in Italy. Millions of tourists from all over the world come here every year. It should not be surprising that the car rental service is also very popular here. Booking a car for renting in advance will allow you to choose the best option in terms of price and quality. Without reservation, you may encounter a situation where all the cars of the class you need will already be taken, and you will have to take a car in a more expensive segment. This is especially true during the “high” tourist season, for example, during the summer holidays, Christmas or Easter holidays. Renting a car on site is almost always more expensive than booking in advance via online services. The optimal period for which I would recommend booking a car is at least 2-4 weeks before the travel dates.
Car rental at the airport of Verona
According to my research, the largest number of rental cars (about 300 units) is available at Verona Airport. There are many rental companies and more than 20 suppliers, including such well-known ones as Global, Thrifty, Locauto, Hertz, Goldcar, Enterprise, Budget, Maggiore, Avis, Sicily by Car, Europcar, InterRent, Keddy and others. The cost of renting a car at Verona Airport starts from 20 euros a day; you can choose a car of any class, including small, medium, large, station wagons, premium cars, minivans, SUVs, etc.
Rental offices at the airport can be found at the arrival terminal in the “Car Rental Center” section. You can choose a car on the spot or in advance via various online services. Online services compare offers for available options in Verona. In addition, you can book a car in advance in order to choose the best available offer.
If you booked a car in advance, the registration time will be reduced on the spot. In addition, this way you can avoid queues, because cars booked in advance are checked out in a separate registration point. All you have to do is to inspect the selected car for damage (if any, it is better to record them in the contract), sign the contract and take insurance. You can do your own search for finding the best car option to rent at the airport:
My tips on how to book a car in advance using online services:
1.On the main page of any of the services, you need to fill in the search data including a place of picking up and returning a car, your travel dates, exact time, etc. Next, you will see the search page, where all available offers from rental companies for your dates will be sorted in ascending order by price. You can also mark the desired filters for a more accurate search. For example, select the rental companies you are interested in, the desired car class, transmission, additional conditions (insurance, mileage, fuel, etc.).
2.Under each offer you will find the “Rental Conditions” tab. Important parameters such as documents required for registration, which bank card is accepted for payment, the size of the deposit, insurance conditions, information on mileage (limited or unlimited), information on fuel (full or empty tank upon return) and some others will be indicated here. After studying these conditions, it will be easier for you to make a decision. Please, note, that the lower the rental price, the higher the deposit.
3.Having selected a suitable offer, go to the booking page. Here you will need to provide personal information, including your last name, first name, telephone number, email address, time and flight number. On the same page you can order additional options, for example, a child seat, a trunk, a navigator; you can also add a second driver, and take out extended insurance. Payment is made by bank card.
4.After payment, you will receive a booking confirmation voucher to your email address. It must be printed and presented at the rental office (or presented via smartphone). In the office, you will need to sign a lease agreement, obtain insurance (if you have not obtained it during the online session), pay the remaining cost and make a deposit. After this, you will be given the keys to the car. The car will be located in the nearest parking lot.
What about prices?
The cost of renting a car in Verona starts from 20-25 euros per day for a small car. During the “high” season (summer months, Easter and Christmas holidays), the price usually increases by 15-20%. In general, the cost of rental is usually influenced by such factors as vehicle class, rental period (the longer the rental period, the lower the rental rate per day), mileage restrictions (without restrictions, as a rule, it is more expensive). Additional equipment is paid separately (for example, a child seat, a navigator, a trunk, chains, etc) Also, you will have to pay for adding a second driver. Obtaining a full insurance is also paid additionally (if desired).
Renting rules in Verona
In order to rent a car in Verona or in any other Italian city, you must have a passport, a driver’s license, as well as a bank card to pay for services. To my mind, the registration is quite simple:
- you need to choose a car of a suitable class
- sign a lease agreement
- take out an insurance
- pay for rental services
When paying, an additional amount of money will also be blocked. It is called a deposit for unforeseen circumstances, which is usually unblocked at the end of the rental period within 2 weeks to a month. The entire procedure for registering a car for renting takes no more than 20 minutes (if you have a reservation). You can choose a car on the spot upon arrival in Verona, or you can book a car in advance via various online services. In the last case the registration will be even more simplified.
Briefly about the deposit, franchise & insurance:
If the price of renting a car is low, then the deposit amount is usually quite large. This amount of money will be blocked on the card as a deposit in case of damage to the car. You can avoid this by taking out full insurance;
A standard insurance covers your expenses in case of an accident, but only above the deductible amount called franchise. You will have to pay the franchise. The amount of the deductible in case of an accident is specified in the contract, please pay attention when signing;
A full insurance usually covers both the franchise and the deposit, and also covers damage to glass, mirrors, tires, wheels, etc. (exact conditions are specified in the contract). Traffic violations (fines issued) are NOT covered by full insurance! The cost of full insurance is daily and, accordingly, depends on the number of rental days.
Verona is a fairly compact town with many narrow historical streets, so the main question here is where to find a parking lot. If you plan to rent a car and stay in Verona, then it will be better to look for a hotel or apartment with parking to avoid the problems. If you plan to actively travel from Verona around Italy, then you will find roads of excellent quality here.
Some of the highways in Italy, as well as tunnels, are toll ones, and to drive along them, you need to take a ticket at the beginning of the toll section, and at the end, pay for it at the automatic machine or at the cashier. Toll sections can be avoided if duplicate roads are used. The speed of movement along duplicate roads is somewhat lower and the views are more picturesque.

Take a note! When going on a trip to Italy, do not forget to take out travel insurance, which is useful for receiving a tourist visa and for solving emerging medical problems when travelling in another country. You can purchase insurance via online services, for example, via EKTA and others. You can choose from different modes, including quiet, active or extreme rest.
