What to see in Villasimius
Villasimius is located in an amazingly picturesque place, and this is its main feature. Here, spacious white sandy beaches coexist with wind-sheltered gulfs, Cape Carbonara and historical sites. Villasimius can be described as a place where countryside and local architecture complement each other.
While vacationing in Villasimius, you should definitely visit the Archaeological Park, on your own or with a tour, where the ruins of Phoenician and Roman buildings are located. There are not only buildings typical of those times, but also very mysterious and interesting objects, some of which have yet to be unveiled.
To see the best panoramic views of the surrounding area, it is worth going up to Cape Carbonara, where there is an old fortress built back in the 14th century. You can hardly find a more romantic place in Villasimius. Cape Carbonara is a part of marine reserve located in the surroundings of Villasimius. This place is truly unique, with its own ecosystem and local flora and fauna. The reserve is surrounded with deserted snow-white beaches and amazing natural landscapes, not only on the surface, but also under water. The marine reserve in Villasimius is a favorite place for divers (there are diving centers near here).
A boat trip (individually or as part of excursions) to small islands off the shore of Sardinia called Serpentara and Cavoli can also be an interesting adventure. There are also interesting historical sights, lighthouses and towers here.
While vacationing in Villasimius, you should definitely set aside one day to visit the capital of the island – the medieval city of Cagliari, which is famous for its archaeological monuments, fortresses, towers, bastions, as well as the magnificent Cathedral.
Undoubtedly, one of the main attractions of Villasimius is its beaches. The beaches of Sardinia are sometimes called a truly “paradise”. Indeed, it is here, in the very heart of Europe, that you can find white-sand paradise beaches like Bounty. A big plus is that, with the exception of some private areas owned by hotels, most beaches in Sardinia, and in Villasimius in particular, are free. Many local beaches are included in the protected area of the island, and therefore they manage to maintain their natural beauty.
In Villasimius, one of the most picturesque beaches is Timi Ama. It is covered with white sand. On one side there is a sea shore, on the other side there is a lake. In the season you can even see pink flamingos! Spiaggia del Riso (a sandy beach in a picturesque gulf adjacent to giant natural boulders), Porto Guinco (gulf with white sand spit), Punta Molentis (small beach located at the foot of the cape) are also great. All beaches of Villasimius are sandy, the gulfs have a gentle entry into the water. In addition, the water here warms up much faster due to the fact that the gulfs are often sheltered from the winds by rocks. The disadvantage is that it takes quite a long time to get here on foot from almost any hotel (with the exception of five-star ones located on the first beach line), so many tourists rent a car if possible.
Take a note! When going on a trip to Italy, do not forget to take out a travel insurance, which is useful for receiving a tourist visa and for solving emerged medical problems when travelling in another country. You can purchase an insurance via online services, for example, via EKTA and others. You can choose from different modes, including quiet, active or extreme rest.
